What is always recommended is increasing intake of fruits and vegetables. People can make things from salads to steamed vegetables. Another thing that people can add to their diet are whole grains. It is recommended that a diet high in oatmeal can help lower cholesterol levels. Eating brown rice is healthier than white rice, and people can even eat a handful of nuts each day.

To help ease the work of sticking to a healthy diet, there are enjoyable foods which can add benefits. One is red wine. This has been studied and said to be good for the heart. One glass per day is recommended. Secondly, dark chocolate has anti-oxidants, too, which have the same effect as fruits and vegetables.

People who need to follow a strict diet should consult with their physician and dietitian. They can help with setting serving sizes and add limits on other things like salt intake. Studies have shown how a good diet with exercise can help improve the health of many with coronary disease, vascular disease, diabetes, and more. No one regimen works the best, and there are a variety of foods which help. Of course, lowering intake where needed is also necessary.

With an epidemic present, it is necessary for many people to start following American heart diets. This is in hope to prevent common diseases like hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and diabetes which can lead to severe coronary disease. People have many foods to choose from which help reduce sodium and cholesterol levels. It just takes diligence in continuing this diet to lead to a healthy heart. People can choose from the many fruits and vegetables available as well as healthy meats like fish. Salmon is very popular, and there is trout, cod, tilapia, and more.
