Simple Yet Effective Weight Loss Tips

By Russ Howe

As a gym instructor, over the last five years I have seen many people try to lose weight. Most pick up the latest celebrity diet plan or try to lose weight quickly for a special event such as a wedding and as a result of their need for a 'quick fix' gimmick, they fail.

Here are a few very basic and easy to follow rules which will help anybody to drop some unwanted poundage from their waistline.

* To start the ball rolling in the right direction you need to work out your current daily calories and chop it down. Not drastically, but sufficiently so you notice a difference in the amount of food that you eat. Dropping by 10% to 15% is fine, but nothing more than that at the beginning.

* Secondly, protein has less impact on fat storage than carbs or fats so if you fancy a snack, protein up.

* Snack tubs are a fantastic addition to your weight loss routine. You are most vulnerable when at work during a long double shift with no healthy food in sight. You can literally feel the chocolate machine staring you down, right? We have all been there. Take four small tubs packed with a rich protein food and you will keep hunger at bay as well as reap the weight loss rewards of avoiding junk food without even thinking about it.

* Fourth comes the tried and tested carb deficit. The basic rule when cutting down on bad carbs and bad fats is to also increase your protein intake. If you fail to do this you will hit a wall and find it impossible to lose any more weight after a couple of weeks.

* Last but certainly not least is our most important rule. Take a day off each week. Whether you want to or not, it's a good move. Why? Because something as simple as a day off allows you to do two very important things....

With a day off thrown into the mix your body has a chance to take a break from eating a strict diet regime and allow itself the chance to remember why you called your favorite junk food snacks 'treats' in the first place. There is nothing wrong with giving yourself a reward for a great week, the extra calories will not make a jot of difference when offset against the good work you have done for the last seven days and this actually helps you to remain on the straight and narrow.

The fact is that day off gives you something to aim for during a tough week, too. If you are new to weight loss and are struggling to get through a difficult, testing week sometimes just having that light at the end of the tunnel to look forward to is more than enough to help you stay on track to reach your goals.

These rules are proven to work. If you are trying to lose weight fast or trying to simply shift an few pounds and keep them off forever, each step here will put you on the right track immediately.
