By Michelle Torres

You have just found out you're having a boy. Congratulations! Designing a baby boy nursery is fun and yet a major task. Do you know where to start? Have you planned for the nursery theme already? Picking your crib is our suggested first step to your project. Since cribs come in multiple colors and woods, we recommend you look at your wall paint, flooring and/or carpet to begin. Are you going to paint? Will your carpeting match to the color crib you like? Keep this in the back of your mind when you set out to start designing. If you are able to finalize these initial steps, you will be off to a great start with your baby boy nursery.

Now to get your nursery theme established. This is the most fun step! What kinds of themes do you like? Do you prefer decorating with a more childlike theme or modern? Is a solid fabric more your style or patterned? Themes that are in style in a boy baby nursery are: Monkey, Sailboats, Pirates, Cowboys, Travel, Sheep and Owls.

After you choose your list, now it's time to finalize the top couple or three choices. We recommend you start to look at the selections for baby bedding in those themes in stores. If you don't find what you're looking for, keep looking. It's best you allot enough time to find the perfect baby boy nursery bedding set. Expectant moms generally order their bedding around the 6th month. Planning in advance is always best. When you plan in advance, you will find it easier to select the perfect baby bedding them and consequently find the perfect set.

Now that your nursery theme is selected, finishing touches can start to be selected. It's easy to select everything to match, but make sure not to overdo it. Also keep in mind if you are having a baby shower that you will receive gifts for the room from guests.

Popular nursery decor items include growth charts, nursery rugs and artwork. Many times, these decor items will coordinate with your bedding or you'll find close in design items. Growth charts are a great accessory and sentimental item, too. You keep track of baby's milestones while adding flair to the room. Nursery rugs are not only functional buy can tie in to your room theme in a unique way - even if you pick a simple design. And artwork is perfect to create a room focal point and add your own unique character to the room all at the same time.

You'll have a blast when you design your baby boy nursery. Make it fun and personalized for your dream baby nursery!
