Ways To Become A Better Parent Overnight

By Bruce Lamoureux

Many people plan carefully for their babies while other seem to find themselves in the midst of parenthood unexpectedly. But however it happens, there you are and it doesn't matter how you got there. Now the focus needs to be on doing the best job that you can. This article can bring some insight into the full time job of being a parent.

If your child will be attending a funeral with you, it is a good idea to prepare him or her for what she might see, hear, and smell. Others' grieving and emotional outpourings may be difficult for young children to witness, and it's a good idea for the child to expect people to be crying or upset ahead of time.

Even if your sick child begins to show signs of feeling better after a few days of antibiotics, you should follow the doctor's orders exactly and finish the course of therapy. If your child does not finish the entire dosing plan, weakened bacteria may remain in his or system and become resistant to the antibiotics.

As a parent, it's important to take some time for yourself. It seems natural to always put our children first, but over time we can experience burnout and become stressed and frazzled. Setting aside a little time for yourself regularly can go a long way toward keeping you a happy and healthy parent.

A great parenting tip is to learn to speak to your child at their level. Don't just bark orders at them all the time. They'll just feel like they have no connection with you if you do that. Remove your ego, and learn to communicate better with your child.

Shuttling your children from location to location in your car can get stressful, especially if you run into inevitable traffic delays. You can keep your kid's frustration in check by making sure your car is well-stocked with their favorite music. A CD of kid-friendly tunes will keep a traffic jam from turning into an ordeal.

To encourage breastfeeding in an infant, offer your child plenty of skin to skin contact. Skin to skin contact makes a young infant feel content. It also allows them to smell Mom's milk and so, want to breastfeed more. The feeling of bonding and closeness that skin to skin contact facilitates is also great for Mom, as it reduces stress.

Develop patience when dealing with a breastfeed baby who is trying to learn how to use a bottle. Breastfeeding comes naturally to them and bottle feeding doesn't. Make it a gradual process for the baby so that they are ready to transition when you are. It won't happen overnight so stay calm and just keep trying.

Try making a special reading area for your children. Put some appealingly arranged shelves full of books appropriate to their age group and a comfortable place to sit and read. Encourage them to use the space by making a reading corner time each day, and if possible, let them see you reading during this time as well.

In order to have a proper developing toddler, it is important that they get many hours of social interaction. A great idea to get this done is for them to enter a preschool. This way, they can meet other children their age and build their knowledge basis at the same time.

If your kids are addicted to technology, you can reduce the time they spend on their electronic devices by taking them on trips to interesting places in the real world. The lure is that they will have something interesting to talk about at a later time with their friends online.
