there are many types of camp, generally speaking, camps can either be day or overnight camps. The difference between these two types is those under the latter provide accommodations to kids for a specified period of time, usually ranging from one to nine weeks. Day camps, on the other hand do not have facilities to allow for a residential program.

Sleepover camps can be single gender or coed. When deciding which type is best for you and your child it is best to understand the the strength of each. Coed Summer Camps allow children to live in a more lifelike situation. So hopefuly guys and gals feel more comfortable interacting with othe sex. Boys camps or girls camps allows campers to be with their own gender, thus allowing children to try new things with out the worry the other gender may look or laugh at them.

The Philosophy of each camp is different and that is why it is s important to speak with a camp director. They will tell you how specialized their program is. There are sports camps, for, wherein activities revolve around a specific sport, such as basketball, golf, swimming, horses or fencing. Academic camps are also available that focus on a particular course, such as Language arts, foreign language or Math. Then there are special needs camps for those who need special care or can not make it at a more traditional camp.

Activities- Sure camp is about fun but a traditional summer camp will offer outdoor activities that are fun while working on your child's independence.If you have a specific area that you want child to excel at it is important to consider this a s a primary objective of your camp experience.

Sports - It is safe to say that a camp is not a camp without sports in its program. That said, there are different types of] sports that your child will learn while at camp, and these can either be individual - like gymnastics - or team sports - like baseball and football.

Arts - Traditional summer camps always have an arts and crafts focus that allow children to make different objects and explore the arts. Other more focused camps may give special classes in : painting, clay, film making, computer arts or almost any other art that you might like.

Education - Most brochures providing summer camp information emphasize the inclusion of educational activities in their program to assure parents that their kids will also learn while having fun. The activities in this category are designed to promote academic enrichment - like gardening activities to encourage children to study Biology; or are meant to help kids cope with lessons in school, such as an ESL program to aid foreign students studying in the US.

Adventure - All camps have a sense of adventure because it is new and different to your child. Yet some camps try to get your child out into nature and teach your child how to overcome difficulties that happen while outdoors. This is building of resilience is something that all children can use today.
