Infants And Teething

By Garcelina Duvantes

Teething can frustrate a baby but it also frustrates parents as well, it can be rather painful and it is difficult for parents to watch their child going through so much pain and just stand by, naturally they want to take action to make sure their child goes through the whole process as easily as possible. The first set of teeth will begin to come in when your baby is about four months old, the first set of teeth are the central incisors and they appear in the middle of the bottom gum first.

Help your baby through this entire process by wiping away the drool with a clean wet rag. You can buy teething rings and leave them in the freezer for about half an hour to assist your baby. Try to avoid the teething rings with fluid inside them because these will sometimes break or leak.

You can give the child a chilled wash cloth to chew on as well. Yogurt or some applesauce from the fridge can also help relieve the pain. Mom or dad may take a clean finger and gently massage the baby's gum to relieve pain. To help your baby cope with the pain you might want to try giving the baby a small amount of children's pain reliever that contains acetaminophen but of course you must check with your doctor. You are never to put aspirin on your baby's gums as this has been associated with Reyes syndrome in infants.

Care for your infant's teeth by wiping the gums and teeth with water or use a soft bristled brush to clean the baby's teeth with water. You should never use toothpaste until the child can spit out, this usually happens at about three years of age. Once your child has the maximum amount of teeth try to brush them at least twice a day.

Make sure you take proper care of your child's teeth by wiping the child's gum with water, you may also use a soft bristled brush to make sure the child's gum is cleaned using water. Toothpaste must not be used until the child is able to spit out. As soon as your infant has all of his or her milk teeth remember to brush then two times daily.Even though these teeth will fall out and eventually be replaced by permanent teeth , it is important that you take care of them to prevent them from rotting causing gaps in the gum. Once there are gaps in the gum the other teeth will become crooked from trying to close the gap. Remember to take your child to the dentist as soon as the child turns one year old.
