Save Money By Making Your Own Shower Centerpieces

By Grace Daniels

It may surprise you to learn that you do not have to spend a lot of money on shower centerpieces. You can easily make your own for much less than the cost of buying store bought. They are often easy to make once you know what to do. The centerpiece you make yourself will look every bit as good as the ones you buy already made. You will also have the added satisfaction on knowing that this was something that you did yourself and that saved money in the process.

If you are worried that your pieces will look homemade and cheap, put that thought behind you. You do not have to sacrifice style and elegance. The one you make will not only be elegant but it can be customized to your exact specifications since you are making it yourself.

Instead of opening your wallet, open your eyes. Look for an already made centerpiece that you like. Do not think about price, just think about something that appeals to the eye. Look for something stunningly beautiful.

Take a good look at each one. Dissect it in your mind. A centerpiece is often made up of several components put together to form one cohesive unit. You may have glass vases, candles, flowers, ribbon, and risers all used in one item. By looking at each piece as a separate component, you can determine what goes into making it.

Check out discount stores, craft store sales, and online craft catalogs for your supplies. Register at websites for local craft stores or get on the mailing list. This is one way to get discount coupons that can save you even more money on the items that are needed.

Craft stores or craft sections at your local department store are perfect places to find ribbon, artificial flowers and Styrofoam along with many other odds and ends that you need. Look for closeouts and discontinued items for even greater savings. Planning ahead is another way to save a lot of money. If you know well in advance that you are going to be hosting an event, you can take advantage of end of season clearance sales to stock up.

Work systematically one step at a time to mentally deconstruct the centerpiece you wish to make. Start at the base or center and work your way out. You begin putting your piece together by working from the center or bottom and working upward and outward.

Take your time and make this fun. Do not let yourself become stressed. Making your shower centerpieces should be fun. Make sure that you do not schedule your crafting session to close to the day of the occasion. You should give yourself more time than you think you will need. This helps to ensure that you do not become overwhelmed. Schedule breaks so that this does not begin to feel like a job. You might also want to think about inviting others close to the bride or mother to be over to help on the project. Having friends around makes it more fun.
