Breastfeeding tips come a penny a dozen.
Everyone has one.
Even anyone who has never breastfed! And you can imagine what their tip is: "You should stop breastfeeding" or "Just provide him with formula".
No breastfeeding mother wants to hear that! Especially a new one.
So I'm calling all breastfeeding moms, no matter how long you breastfed, to offer your favorite tip.
Maybe breastfeeding tips someone gave you, or something like that you figured out from experience.
What made life easier as a breastfeeding mom?
Below are a few breastfeeding tips that I've learned along the way:
* Nurse with a cup water or some type of liquid close to you. (For some reason I recieve really thirsty when nursing my baby. Maybe it's from hearing him gulp down milk!)
* Go bra-less sometimes, or shirt-less if you're in the home! (This gives you and your baby quick access to your breast without the headache of a bra)
* Pump one breast while nursing your baby on the other if you're looking to store milk. This makes it so easy to pump as your baby can stimulate your let down a lot faster compared to a pump and you're killing two birds with one stone; saving milk and feeding your child at the same time!
* Don't listen to naysayers. Although they mean good (sometimes), females who have never breastfed really don't understand breastfeeding.
These people don't. One of many Breastfeeding Tips: Breastfeeding babies don't eat, poop, or burp the same as a formula fed baby.
* Don't keep formula in your house. Even if you feel like, well........in case. No, that will give you an easy out when you don't feel like breastfeeding........ then your milk supply will start to go down and then you will wonder why baby is hungry all the time and if she is getting enough milk you'll really start formula feeding and the next thing you know isn't more breast milk for baby...... (breath)......See. Only one can of formula could cause all types of problems!
* Wear something around your neck while breastfeeding. Eventually, as soon as your baby learns how to use his hands, the disposable arm that's sticking out while you are breastfeeding him will discover its way across the body and to your free nipple. There, your child will find a nice little "ball" to roll around in the itty bitty finger, irritating the heck away from you!
So although it is not a requirement to wear something around your neck, being a necklace you don't mind him pulling on, the quicker you do it the better, to be able to train them. Because moving their little give over to that other nipple becomes habit real quick.
Now it's your turn.
