Health and Fitness - What Is Real And Fake

By Henry Simpson

It's not always a bad idea to ignore those who think they know it all at the gym. While it is possible to get 'some' good tips for your workout, it's more likely that you'll pick up false information, although not intentional. There are some great tips to be had from talkers at the gym, but you can also inadvertently gain false or even harmful information from those who don't really know what they are talking about. Similar to many other situations in life where you might need advice, be careful what you believe. It's important for this reason that you ensure you are getting accurate information from only well known credible sources. These tips can help you get the best information.

Another myth is that using an ab machine and doing crunches will help rid you of the fat in your midsection, it is amazing what people will say to get you to try something. The late-night infomercial seemed to imply that you can lose belly fat if you use some whiz-bang ab blaster-dissolver vaporizer thing. Belly fat is exactly what it implies, and that is a direct reflection on your percentage of body fat. Some believe that running on a treadmill is easier on your knees than running on a hard surface outdoors.

There is a curious attitude when it comes to sweating. Most people believe that sweat is indicative of hard work and a good workout. The converse seems to hold, as well, if there is no sweat happening, then they must not be working very hard. Just as an air conditioner in your home, sweat is what cools your body down. While they may be a product of one, another sweat and physical exertion are not indicative of one another. It is possible to burn a huge amount of calories without ever breaking a sweat. Walking can accomplish this for you.

Another myth that is common is the excuse No Time for exercise. All a person needs are ten to twenty minutes on three days during the week. Top off your short schedule during the week with a longer 30-minute workout on the weekends for a great minimalist approach to fitness that is better than no exercise at all. Can you squeeze in a walk at work or with your children? You can go for a brisk walk during your lunch hour or break. You can take ten minutes and jump a rope, and you can do that in your apartment or house. Ten minutes is not that hard to find, we can all do it if we try.

It's more important than ever to sort out the truths of health and fitness, especially if you're totally new to working out with the best exercise bike. The reason for that is simply that you are in the early stages of fitness habit formation. If you cultivate the wrong habits now, you're setting yourself up for a painful process of re-education later. Whether you continue your fitness program and your future success depend on forming good habits.
