Easy Pregnancy Tips

By Nina Krick

See your doctor before trying to become pregnant. Your doctor will be able to advise you on healthy changes to make in your lifestyle now, to make sure you have the best pregnancy possible. Learning how to prepare your body for pregnancy is one of the best things you can do to help ensure a safe and healthy experience.

Start taking pregnancy belly pictures early. Many women like to have early pictures to compare against as the months pass. If you turn out not to want them, you don't have to keep them, but you can't decide later that you want to keep photographs that you never had taken.

If you smoke, being pregnant is the greatest reason you will ever have to stop smoking so find a way to do it now! As stressful as being pregnant may be, jeopardizing the health of your baby is a million times more stressful. This is a great opportunity to get medical help to quit and have the strongest motivating factor to keep you smoke-free.

Leg cramps are common in late pregnancy. Make sure you stretch before going to bed, and this will lesson the chance of these occurring. Drinking water will also help ward them off, as well as making sure you are getting enough potassium, which you can get from eating foods like bananas.

If you are trying to get pregnant, but are not yet, start tracking your menstrual cycles. This will let you know when you are ovulating, and will also be able to tell you what date you conceived on when you find out your are pregnant. This will help you to be more accurate with your due date.

Change your food habits to ensure optimum nutrients for both you and the baby. If you were in the habit of eating a steady stream of fast food pre-pregnancy, you are going to have to make some serious changes. Incorporate more fruits, vegetables and lean protein into your diet, starting today.

Do not forget about your spouse or partner when you are pregnant. Chances are, they are just as nervous as you are about the baby coming and they need reassurance as well. Spend time together by going to the movies or taking a walk. Enjoy the time you have before your new addition comes!

Do not get worried if you haven't gotten pregnant in the first year of trying. The general consensus among doctors is that it takes a year of actively trying to become pregnant before there is cause for concern. If you have been trying for a year with no success, see your doctor for an evaluation.

Wear sunscreen while pregnant, even if you didn't really require it before. Tanning beds should also be avoided. Pregnancy can make your skin more sensitive to the sun, increasing your chances of both sunburn and sunspots. However, make sure that the sunscreen you use contains only chemicals that are safe for your baby.
