How To Use Montessori Method To Teach Counting

By Maritza Conrad

It is possible to teach kids how to count with the use of the tactile numbers of the method of Montessori Frisco. He should trace the grainy numbers that are raised on the stiff cards. When tracing, the person should say the names out loud. The child will definitely imitate the person soon enough.

He should then introduce the popular spindle box. This is a box with many compartments with numbers zero to nine. The spindles will be completely filled if the child has counted the numbers correctly.

Colored bead bars and number cards should also be useful. One should secure a complete set of number cards. A complete one should have up to 9,999 but it is recommended to use the one to nine numbers for the child's learning.

The colored beads are also strung on a very stiff wire. Each of these wires correspond to a specific amount. In addition, the numbers are being represented by different colors of the beads. The parent or teacher can leave it to the child to decide which color will represent which number.

Number rods are also a special tool when it comes to counting numbers. With the existence of the rods, the person can then demonstrate whatever the difference is between each of the numbers. The number rods can be used with the number cards.

For the number rods, the person can make use of the alternating blue and red stripes. Counting the stripes and letting them represent a number is necessary for the child's learning. With this tool, the numbers can be lined up in either a descending or ascending manner.

Allow the child to match the names and numbers. He can use the numbered cards for this. He can simply spread the cards out and let the child determine the numbers. For this method used in Montessori Frisco, this should be an easy task for the child in just a few sessions.
